What usually
turns out to be wrong.
Most of a dishwasher install happens in the six inches around the machine. The hot supply comes off the sink stop with a braided line and a shut-off of its own. The drain goes up in a high loop before it ties in, so waste water can’t run back down the hose. The machine is then levelled and braced so the door stays square under a loaded rack. Miss any of that and it runs well for a season, then wets the cabinet floor.
The opening isn’t 24 inches
Standard machines want a 24 inch bay, square and clear to the back. Older cabinet runs are often narrower or shallower than that, and the answer is joinery before delivery rather than force on the day.
There has never been a dishwasher here
A first machine needs a bay, a hot supply teed off the sink stop, a drain connection and a receptacle it can actually reach. We look at all four before you order, not after.
The disposal knockout plug
A new garbage disposal ships with the dishwasher inlet plugged from the factory. Leave it in and the machine will not drain at all on its first cycle. We punch it out and clear the swarf.
Sink water in the machine
Without a high loop or an air gap, waste water siphons back down the hose and sits in the tub. It is a five minute detail at install and a callback that smells for weeks if it is missed.
Panel-ready and flush fits
Integrated machines carry a custom door panel, and the door springs have to be re-tensioned for its weight or the door drops open. Miele and Thermador machines are both on our own job record.
The stop under the sink is older than the kitchen
The valve feeding the machine has usually spent its whole life open. We carry quarter-turn replacements, because the time to find out it won’t hold is before the old machine comes out, not after.
What the job includes.
The old machine goes with us
We can bring the new one on the truck, and the old machine leaves on the same trip with every piece of packaging that came with the replacement.
A new supply line, not the old one
Braided stainless off the hot stop with its own shut-off, made up with fresh tape and checked under pressure. Old lines get replaced rather than reconnected.
The drain, tied in properly
High loop clipped up under the counter, then into the disposal inlet or a wye tail piece, with the knockout out and the hose clamped rather than pushed on.
Set, levelled and braced
Feet adjusted so the door closes square against both cabinets, the anti-tip bracket fixed to the counter or the side panels, and the toe kick refitted.
The first cycle, watched
The machine runs a complete cycle with the cabinet open so we can watch every joint under water. Two-year warranty on the work.
How the visit goes.
- 01Before you buySend us the bay width, the depth to the wall and the model you are looking at. We will say whether it fits before the money is spent.
- 02The day itselfWater off at the stop, the old machine drained where it stands so it doesn’t empty onto the floor, then out, with the bay swept before anything new goes in.
- 03ConnectionsSupply, drain and power made up in that order, then the machine walked in on its feet rather than dragged across the floor.
- 04The testA full cycle runs before we pack up, with the toe kick still off so the floor under the machine can be seen and checked dry.

If yours isn’t here, the phone is the fastest way to have it answered, seven days a week.
Yes. It gets drained, disconnected and carried out, and the packaging from the new one goes with it. Tell us when you book so the van has room for it. If the old machine is being kept or sold on, say so and we will leave it capped and dry rather than putting it on the truck.
