Brampton kitchens are generally newer and generally larger, which means wider ranges, bigger fridges and hoods that genuinely need ducting rather than recirculating. We size the connection to the appliance instead of reusing whatever the builder left behind.

Rear-lane townhouses changed the Brampton job. In Mount Pleasant and Springdale the garage sits at grade and the kitchen is a full flight above it, so a wide fridge goes up a straight run, turns at the top with its doors off, and clears a handrail that we pad first. None of that is difficult when we know about it a week out. All of it is awkward when we meet it on the day.

Second kitchens and basement bathrooms are common in Brampton, and they are where drainage tends to get improvised. A drain rebuilt with proper unions, correct fall and real venting is the difference between a room you use and a room you apologize for.

Laundry on the bedroom floor is common in the Springdale and Castlemore builds, and it changes what a small leak costs: a weeping valve lands on the main floor ceiling instead of a basement slab. Those machines usually sit in a closet with a bifold door and no room to pull them forward, so we look at the valves, the hoses and the standpipe while the pair is out rather than after it goes back.

Brampton mechanical rooms have space, which makes a tankless conversion straightforward: unit mounted, vented, valved and commissioned, with a gas line sized for it rather than borrowed from something else.

Springdale and Mount Pleasant houses came with the fireplace already in the wall, and plenty have not been opened since. The layout of the logs matters more than it looks: logs and embers go to a pattern set by the manufacturer, and one nudged into the flame path carbons up, sooting the glass and dulling the burn. The media goes back where it belongs before we re-light.

The mechanical room does the deciding in Springdale and Mount Pleasant. Newer houses put the furnace, the water heater, the softener and the ducting in one small room, and the gas comes into the middle of it. A take-off is easy enough to make. Leaving the shut-off somewhere a person can actually reach, without moving a water softener first, is the part that takes thought.
